Since Wild Style (1983) showed the genesis of this important subculture of Hip Hop; graffiti has continued to evolve into a diverse language and art form. From the crude and abhorred to the embraced and exquisitely complex, it's part of the visual ecosystem of every city. This piece was created by a graffiti artist known as My Dog Sighs, who hails from the UK. As a world famous artist he tours the globe and graces city walls with similar themed pieces. Providing color to what were the surrounding blank canvases of local Chicagoans lives.

This piece literally invades the city, providing a narrative to the beholder of its preying on unsuspecting New Yorkers. In 2014 a graffiti artist known as Space Invader, from Paris, announced his descension and intentions to dot the city with his trademark Atari alien creatures. It wasn't long after SI successfully planted this high-profile piece that he was zapped the NYPD.

We connected with Grace Bany to talk about initiatives with youth as he's a mentor and works in the refugee camps. He connected us to the crew, flanking him, that goes by Ajabu Danceunit. All of them are dedicated to "breakdancing" and are enthusiasts of old school Hip Hop. Eric B. & Rakim's “Juice” was playing when I walked into the studio.

For an hour, we were fortunate to watch them train. Here are some clips of the event w/ music by Brock Berrigan.
